Update: Open letter to Keir Starmer

Together, we sent Keir Starmer an open letter calling for urgent action on Gaza. It was signed by over 400 public figures including Malala, Judi Dench, Ncuti Gatwa, Yasmine El Massri, Florence Pugh, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dua Lipa, Riz Ahmed, Brian Cox, Gary Lineker and Annie Lennox. It was emailed to him by thousands of our supporters who urged him to end complicity in horrors in Gaza. 

We have now received a response from the Prime Minister — something that is rare, and a clear sign of the power of our collective voice and advocacy. His letter is shared below.

Unfortunately, we do not feel that his letter — or his recent public statements — adequately address the urgent and immediate concerns we raised, particularly around the need for unhindered humanitarian access, the suspension of arms sales and the ongoing starvation of children in Gaza.

He called the aid blockade ‘wholly inadequate’ and yet he has still not halted all sales and licenses to Israel.

He has not taken ‘decisive’ enough ‘measures’ for the children in Gaza who are dying of starvation now.

We’re not stopping here. We’re writing back to Keir Starmer because the UK Government must act now to save those who can still be saved. We need actions not words for the children of Gaza.
