$6 Million Gift from Jack Dorsey’s #StartSmall granted to Choose Love over 3 years

We are delighted to announce that Choose Love has received a transformative $6 million gift from Jack Dorsey’s #startsmall initiative. We will use this amazing investment to both fuel immediate humanitarian relief and strengthen our capacity to support displaced people across the globe over the next 3 years. #startsmall is currently committed to funding initiatives focused on global crisis relief, girls’ health and education, and open internet development. It supports organizations making meaningful, immediate impact in these critical areas.

We are so grateful to have received one of these impactful grants, which will be disbursed over 3 years, to enable us to continue to develop our work, using our unique model to ensure that localised humanitarian relief can get to displaced communities around the world. Half of this extraordinary gift will go directly towards lifesaving aid in the form of fast and flexible grants to community-led and grassroots organisations working across Sudan, Gaza, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Ukraine, the Balkans, and the Mediterranean. This means more families will receive shelter, food, clean water, medicine, and protection in moments of profound vulnerability.

The other half will be invested in The Heart, our new core funding initiative. The Heart is the essential infrastructure that powers everything we do – our systems for rapid emergency response, financial management, grantmaking and due diligence, safeguarding, fundraising, impact measurement and communications. With #startsmall’s support, we have already secured further philanthropic investments, and ensured our organisation can continue to grow with agility, integrity, and love for the years ahead.

“Forced displacement is the defining crisis of our time, and the needs are overwhelming. This year alone, Choose Love has already reached over 900,000 people, so this gift from Jack Dorsey and #startsmall comes at a pivotal moment for us,” said Josie Fernandez Marelli, CEO & Co-Founder of Choose Love. “It means we can save more lives today, and secure Choose Love’s future, so that displaced people will always be able to rely on our support in their darkest moments.”

Introducing GLORY: Global Leadership & Organising by Refugee Youth, the youth leadership programme set to make real change

Introducing GLORY: Global Leadership & Organising by Refugee Youth, the youth leadership programme set to make real change

Introducing GLORY: Global Leadership & Organising by Refugee Youth, the youth leadership programme set to make real change

I’m Magid, the facilitator of Choose Love’s new GLORY programme, and I’ve seen first-hand how crucial it is to shift power to those who know displacement from lived experience. For too long, the people making decisions about how to help young displaced people have been created miles away, by people with no knowledge of what it’s really like to flee your home. At Choose Love, we’ve always been focused on putting that decision-making into the hands of those who have experienced it.

That’s why we’re excited to kickstart GLORY: Global Leadership & Organising by Refugee Youth (GLORY). Over two years, we’ll been working with eleven young leaders around the world, aged eighteen to twenty-five, who have all been forcibly displaced from their homes and refuse to be defined by it.

GLORY was created because solutions work best when the people affected can design them. Too many programmes aimed at refugees still treat youth as recipients rather than architects.

Our programme turns that logic inside out. Each member is receiving tailored coaching in community organising, digital storytelling, financial management, and advocacy; we also provide them with a modest budget to help them bring to life ideas to support their communities.

Our members will decide which problems to tackle, both the immediate on-the-ground challenges they encounter in their own communities as well as the broader barriers that refugee youth currently face. Whether that means launching a mental-health peer network, piloting a sports-for-inclusion scheme or experimenting with new ways to document lived experience. In close collaboration with our Head of Safeguarding, we ensure that every idea passes through clear safeguards that make sure everyone is safe and supported. By combining youth-led decision-making with this structured safety net, we aim to foster real structural change that can make a lasting difference.

Our online sessions take place every few weeks and are set up so that all eleven members in the cohort can take part, no matter where they are in the world. Over the two-year journey, the cohort will refine their ideas, learn to measure impact, and build a cross-border network of allies who understand both the urgency and the nuance of forced displacement.

GLORY is made up of eleven incredible young people, each with their own ambitions. To give you a flavour of what could emerge, one member hopes to use his filmmaking skills and narrative framing to replace crisis-driven headlines with films that invite genuine partnership.

Another person intends to hone her community-organising know-how so she can turn workshops into neighbourhood projects that remain culturally rooted.

A third participant, passionate about mental health, is looking to draft a trauma-informed social enterprise model that pairs peer support with solid business practice.

These aspirations show the range of directions GLORY initiatives may take.

Just imagine what the world could look like if these young people are given the tools to make their ambitions reality. We’re only at the beginning of this journey, and we’d love you to walk it with us.

Follow our progress on Choose Love’s channels, share the stories we amplify, and if you spot an opportunity to collaborate or lend support, please get in touch. The future they imagine is already taking shape; together, we can give it the resources to thrive.

Red Line for Gaza

Red Line for Gaza

Red Line for Gaza

Tell your MP to stop the killing of children in Gaza.

Red Line For Gaza is a movement bringing together all of our voices to end the killing and suffering of children in Gaza.

Together, we will use our voice to demand action every week. Until the UK Government acts, we will not stop.

It takes less than a minute to take part. By just hitting send on a short pre-prepared message to your MP, tens-of-thousands of us will ask the same question: What are they doing to stop the deaths of children in Gaza? And we’ll keep on demanding action, until the killing ends.

More than 15,000 children have already been killed by Israeli authorities in Gaza. Every single one of them was someone’s universe. Every child killed is a red line crossed.

Choose Love is partnering with ActionAid UK, Amos Trust, Anti-Slavery International, Christian Aid, Doctors of the World (Médecins du Monde UK), Greenpeace, Humanity and Inclusion, Mothers’ Manifesto, Oxfam and War Child UK to build a community of people taking action. Every week we write to our MPs to urge them to do everything they can to end the killing of children in Gaza.

Click the link, email your MP and you can sign up to take part in our weekly action. We’ll send you a new link every Sunday. Every email helps to keep up the pressure on those in power.

You can join the campaign at any time, every email counts.

Help us keep up the pressure to end UK complicity in Gaza and share this letter
