The stories behind the impact

Choose Love has now been working with displaced people for 11 years – and we’re continuing to use our voice and actions to stand up for people who are too often ignored or pushed aside.

Since we formed in 2015, the number of people who have been forcibly displaced from their homes has risen from 65 million to 120 million. As the scale of the crisis has grown, so has our work.

We’ve just published our latest Impact Report, covering January 2025 to March 2026. It captures what our incredible partners on the ground have made possible and the difference your support makes.

Every pound donated helps make sure someone who has been displaced can access the support, safety and dignity they deserve.

But impact isn’t just about numbers. It’s about people.

Here are two stories out of thousands that show what that impact really looks like when Choose Love, with the help of generous people, philanthropists and public figures, is able to flexibly fund grassroots groups to respond to emergencies.

Rebuilding Hope for Rajwa and Iman

Following nearly fourteen years of war under the Assad regime, millions of Syrian people have been displaced.

One of those people is 75-year-old Rajwa Darwish, whose home in Aleppo was destroyed. Now she lives in a small tent with her two young grandchildren.

8-year-old grandchild Imam has spent much of her life experiencing displacement. Her grandmother Rajwa was able to find our partner, SARD, who has provided Iman with specialised care, including psychosocial support to help her cope with illness and separation from her parents.

In just three months, 60 vulnerable children across Syria received tailored case management through SARD, helping families like Rajwa and her grandchildren find moments of stability, dignity, and hope amid ongoing hardship.

A lifeline for Displaced Families

Sudan has entered its fourth year of violent conflict due to power struggle between two leading military factions, after the country has already endured years of political instability. This has resulted in the world’s largest humanitarian crisis and millions of people becoming displaced.

One of those people is Maria, a 28-year-old mother of three, who have all been displaced multiple times. Maria constantly worried about her and her children surviving among the violence and insecurity.

But then she found Health, Relief, and Rehabilitation Development Services (HRRDS) at a Thobo refugee camp. HRRDS provide families like Maria’s with cash assistance, which gives her autonomy and a sense of dignity during an incredibly difficult time – something that felt almost unattainable when trying to survive.

Thanks to HRRDS, Maria found hope and now has to worry a little less about her children surviving during conflict.

Our grant making philosophy at Choose Love is centred around what we know organisations responding to humanitarian crises need – funding that is fast and flexible. 100% of our grants are fully flexible – our partners are free to use them as they see fit, and we trust them to spend it where it’s most needed.

Our partners, like SARD in Syria and Health, Relief, and Rehabilitation Development Services in Southern Sudan are the beating heart of Choose Love.

Our impact is their impact. We’re proud to work alongside these incredible organisations as they strive for a better world.

And although the numbers in our Impact Report show the scale of what’s possible when people come together to support displaced communities, they can only tell us so much.

Behind every person supported is a story like Rajwa and Iman’s or Maria’s. A family finding a little more stability in an incredibly difficult situation. A child receiving the care they need. A mother feeling hope again.
