Fundraising guidelines

At Choose Love, we are so grateful for your support and commitment to fundraising for us! To ensure your fundraising activities are safe, inclusive, and align with our values, we’ve outlined some important guidelines below. Please read through these carefully to ensure everything runs smoothly.

• Inclusive and Respectful Fundraising: Your fundraising should be inclusive and should not cause offense or discriminate against any group.
• Under 18 Fundraisers:  If you’re under 18, you must have permission from your parent or guardian and be supervised by a responsible adult.
• Door-to-Door Collections: Please do not organise door-to-door collections, as Choose Love is not authorised to fundraise in this way.
• Using the Choose Love Logo:  Your fundraising materials should not suggest that you represent Choose Love, but that you are raising money in support of us. You can use our ‘in support of’ logo, but please email community@choose.love for permission and to receive the logo.
• Respect Our Reputation:  You must not engage in activities that could threaten or negatively impact Choose Love’s reputation. If you do, without prejudice to Choose Love other rights, Choose Love has the right to ask you to stop your fundraising activity immediately. 

Staying safe and sound

Your safety is our priority. While we are here to support you, it’s essential that you manage any risks associated with your fundraising activities. Please take the time to:

• Conduct a Risk Assessment: Assess the potential risks involved with your event. Do the necessary research and make sure everything is in place for a safe event.
• Tell Us Your Plans: Let us know about your fundraising plans so we can provide any support you may need. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at community@choose.love.

Here are some key tips to help ensure your event runs smoothly:

• Plan for Safety: Ensure there are clear emergency exits, first aid kits, and trained staff or volunteers on hand. If your event is outdoors, make sure you have a plan for bad weather. To find more information on how to run a safe event, look at the Government guidance on organising an event.
• Assess the Venue: Make sure the venue is accessible and suitable for your event. Consider crowd control and ensure there is enough space for people to move around safely.
• Check Insurance: If your event involves physical activities, make sure you have appropriate insurance coverage. You might also need public liability insurance depending on the scale of your event. • Risk Assessments: Identify potential hazards (e.g., slippery floors or trip hazards) and take steps to mitigate them.

Raffles & Competitions

If you’re planning a raffle or competition, there are some important legal requirements you must be aware of:

• Licensing:  If you’re hosting a raffle or lottery, check if you need a license from your local council. For larger or national events, you may need a specific lottery license from the Gambling Commission. We strongly recommend reviewing the Gambling Commission’s guidelines and the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice.
• Promote Responsibly: Be clear and transparent about the rules, prizes, and how and when winners will be selected.
• Age Restrictions: Ensure that only eligible participants (typically over 16 or 18) are entering your raffle or competition.
